Samsung Gear VR Review: On 27th November 2015, Samsung VR
headset made a debut and entered the Indian market along with the launch of
Note 5 smartphone. The virtual reality Gear headset has been introduced to give
the multimedia experience to the customers.
The Gear VR developed in with the
collaboration of Oculus VR is compatible with the selected phones. Yes! It is
disappointing, that the VR does not aid all the smartphones available in the
market. Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/S6 Edge+ or Galaxy S7/S7 Edge are the
luckiest phones which are benefitted by the Gear VR. The Galaxy smartphones are
the one which performs the function of display and processor, while on the
other hand, VR is a controller of all pack system. The VR renders customer a
class view as it consists of a high field of view (FOV) and a general inertial
measurement unit. This gives a rotational tracking assistance, connecting the
two devices through micro-USB so that the VR can function. The IMU used in the
particular VR is much more accurate than that used in Google cardboard as it is
well adjusted with the lower latency.
The integrated features of the Gear VR
headset include a touchpad and back button and a proximity sensor. The former
ones, touchpad and back button, are on the side of VR that allows the users to
control the activity of VR and the latter, the proximity sensor helps to detect
whether the headset is on or not. And in this, Google cardboard differs and
features only a button.
The gadget also features a wheel at the
top, a trackpad at the right-hand side, volume rockers is also placed at the
right side assisting in adjusting the volume and lastly, a back button is just
above the trackpad. All these standardized features constitute a Samsung Gear
VR.
Interestingly, before the release of
Gear VR consumer edition, the company had released the two innovator editions
for creating the content and for satisfying the quench of technology buff
people. And, hence, the Gear VR first made a public announcement in September 2015.
First innovator edition was released in
December 2014 and was compatible with the Galaxy Note 4 only. Later, second
innovator edition was released in 2015 and was compatible with Galaxy S6 and S6
Edge with Galaxy Note 4. It was much more alike with the first one, although it
got some minor changes too. The small fan was added inside so that the lens
fogging can be avoided.
Lastly, Samsung launched the consumer
and final edition of Gear VR, which was sold via flash sales and gained the
first position in the VR headsets market and was widely accepted by the
consumers.
Hence, yet now, the best mobile headset
ever produced by any company is the Samsung Gear VR. As, the entry level
headsets, produced by the other companies is not yet competent enough to beat the
Gear VR. But, in future, it is expected that the new companies may
overtake.
